16 Day Campaign to End Violence against Women in Afghanistan
25 November - 10 December, 2007
Demanding Implementation, Challenging Obstacles:
End Violence Against Women
In Afghanistan, the UN and other partners provided support to the Commission on Elimination of Violence Against Women (EVAW) in launching the 16-day campaign to End Violence against Women.
The international campaign originated from the first Women's Global Leadership Institute in 1991, when participants chose the dates 25 November (the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women) to 10 December (International Human Rights Day) for a 16-day campaign, in order to symbolically emphasize that violence against women is a human rights violation.
