Resource Centre for Women in Politics

The aim of the Resource Centre for Women in Politics (RCWP) is to support, enhance and develop the work of women working in the Wolesi Jirga, Meshrano Jirga, Provincial Councils and Civil Society Organisations (or NGOs). All activities of the centre are driven by the needs of women parliamentarians.

Overview

The RCWP, formerly known as the Afghan Women Parliamentarians Resource Centre, is a joint initiative of the Afghan Parliament and UNIFEM.

By providing much-needed resources, UNIFEM strives to increase the communication capacity, accountability, and expertise of women parliamentarians in Afghanistan.

Services and resources provided at the centre

computersThe centre is dedicated to providing Afghan women leaders access to important tools for accomplishing their jobs such as a library, internet access, and the opportunity to participate in capacity building programmes and workshops.

Through the centre, UNIFEM and its partners also strive to provide women parliamentarians the opportunity to network among themselves and with members of the provincial councils and civil society, debate issues, and work together productively in an environment designed to support them.

  • conference roomConference rooms available to parliamentarians for scheduled meetings that can accommodate groups of 5 to 25 people
  • A lecture room to be scheduled for capacity building programmes and workshops for parliamentarians
  • Rooms and a garden area for tea breaks, relaxation and for parliamentarians to gather
