Women in Peace Building

Overview

Women in Peace Building is a comprehensive unit that assists all activities within the Gender and Justice programme.

Activities to promote peace are carried out at the community level through partnership with relevant NGOs. The unit is currently focusing on the following activities:

Supporting Women’s Engagement in Peacebuilding and Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict: Community-Led Approaches

“Supporting Women’s Engagement in Peacebuilding and Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict: Community-Led Approaches” is a two-year project funded by the United Kingdom's Department for International Development (DFID), and involves 6 participating countries.

Following an Induction Seminar in Uganda, attended by all six participating countries, and the establishment of a baseline report, UNIFEM Afghanistan is undertaking a two-year project as part of the global initiative. more »

The Oral History of Afghan Women

oral historiesAs part of this two year programme, UNIFEM Afghanistan aims to unveil, to the extent possible, the history of Afghan women from the late 1970s to the present, by documenting women's oral histories.

The purpose of the project is to collect, document and publish a book of Afghan women’s testimonies that reflect the scope and nature of sexual and gender based violence (SGBV) experienced during the three decades of international and internal conflict and beyond. more »
