Institutional Capacity Building of The Ministry of Women's Affairs (MOWA)

Gender & Statistics

Afghan women and girls and statisticsIn order to accurately assess the advances and shortcomings of women's role in society, statistical data must be collected, analysed and used with a gender perspective in mind. This project, through a partnership between MOWA and the Central Statistics Office (CSO), aims to build the capacity of all government institutions to do this successfully.

The main components of the project are:

  • the development of a programme proposal on capacity building in gender and statistics;
  • an annual publication of women and men in Afghanistan;
  • strengthening the CSO's Gender Unit and MOWA’s Statistics Unit; and
  • strengthening the Inter-ministerial Working Group on Gender and Statistics (IWGGS).

The publication entitled “Women and Men in Afghanistan: Baseline Statistics on Gender” has been completed and will be made available soon.
