UNIFEM priorities are focused on three key areas. These priorities are each carried forward by a programme unit dedicated to furthering UNIFEM's mandate in that area.
Community Empowerment and Economic Development
The Community Empowerment and Economic Development (CEED) programme strives to build Afghan women's capacity to effectively participate in the social, economic and political processes of their country. more »
Gender and Justice
The Gender and Justice programme works to ensure a gender perspective is integrated into all aspects of Afghanistan's legal and judicial reform.
To this end, the programme assists government institutions in meeting their international obligation to protect the human rights of men and women equally. more »
Institutional Capacity Building of the Ministry Of Women’s Affairs (MOWA)
The mandate of UNIFEM's Institutional Capacity Building programme is to assist in building the capacity of the Ministry of Women's Affairs (MOWA) new to act as the lead ministry for gender mainstreaming within the government of Afghanistan. more »
Joint Programmes
UNIFEM is currently a partner in several UN - Government of Afghanistan joint programmes, including: Maternal Mortality Reduction, the Afghanistan Integrated Functional Literacy Initiative and the Girls Education Initiative.
UNIFEM also supports the Literacy Initiative For Empowerment (LIFE) 
and works together with the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) , the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) and others on joint initiatives.
